Not too long ago, I started getting my boy to help out with housework. For a start, we got him to fold his own cleaned laundry and to place it into his closet.
In order for him to be able to place the items into the closet, the compartments had to be easy for identification and within his reach.
Our simple closet from Ikea specially meant for kids was able to achieve that.
What you see in the picture below is a realistic picture of how you can achieve a neat and tidy closet.
No fancy hangers and no unrealistic processes. All you need to do is to make sure short sleeves and long sleeves are seperated.
And that’s it!
For the folded apparels, I segregated it according to home clothes and outdoor wear.
It’s simple and my boy is able to identify the various compartments easily.
Again, note that I work to keep things as simple as possible. One- the instructions fit a 5 year old boy well, two- it is a realistic approach to a weekly affair.
He has to work on his laundry once or twice a week. And he looks forward to it surprisingly. He will ask if there is laundry to be done and hurries to fold his clothings to complete his chores.
I much like the fact that we should use methods which suit our day to day lifestyle. Fanciful methods may look good but don’t actually be feasible in the long run.
